Hey it's the 28th annual Sunset Junction Festival coming up August 23/24 in Silverlake, Los Angeles -wooooo yeahhh. The performance schedule is out and is looking good!

This year's headliners are Broken Social Scene, Cold War Kids, Isaac Hayes, Menomena, Bodies of Water, Black Keys, !!! and HEALTH. You can find the full schedule including set-times here. Now remember kids, there will be lots and lots of style blogs like WGSN trying to capture the latest hipster fashions, not to mention all the hot young bodies everywhere. So dress to impress. ;)

Can you believe Isaac Hayes is going to be there? His music is sexy. I can't believe he was Chef on South Park.

From The Throne Of The Third Heaven... comes... Le Loup!

Le Loup, which means "The Wolf" in French, issued their first album with the super long, folk art-inspired title-- The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millennium General Assembly, on the Hardly Art label which is a subsidiary of Sub Pop. Categorized under indie-slash-experimental, this progressive septet (that's 7) from the D.C. area teamed up less than a year ago and have been touring all over with The Ruby Suns and Bodies of Water.

Le Loup brings a variety of instruments and chorus with four guitarist, a drummer and plethora of toys such as a French horn, tambourine, banjos, keys and other surprises from the Mary Poppin's chest. These kids all sing and clap and play oh-so-cute melodies with lyrics like "Give your heart to us/Give your soul to us" in "We Are Gods! We Are Wolves!" it is clear they are celebrating one thing...our demise! Adorable.

I first heard this band when I saw their music video at the Flux Screening at the Hammer Museum in May. I didn't catch the bands name until I unknowingly downloaded the oh so familiar track. Watch the video, it gave me chills.

Get... PACIFIC!

Pacific! is a band from Gothenburg, Sweden. I've been playing them on my show and if I could play their entire new album, Reveries, on the air, I would. I loved this band the moment I heard them last year on this guy's myspace that I had a crush on. I think my interest in them accidentally faded along with my short-lived romance... but one year later... and they have two great new albums and are getting bigger. I'm so happy they're back in my life!

Pacific! is electro with a sweet indie pop feel mixed with 80's synths and smooth surf rhythms. They have an entire remix album with fun beats to shoulder dance in the car to.

Manimal Festival Was Awesome!

(Sorry I haven't posted for a while, been super busy! I still am, so I'm keeping this short.)

Manimal Vinyl Records

L.A. Records and KXLU put on the very first annual Manimal Festival at Pappy and Harriet's in Joshua Tree this weekend. I drove out with The Dirty Mop and Team Van Breene and we had a fantastic time dancing around in the dirt with the farm animals and hipster-hippies in ol' Pioneer Town. Manimal Vinyl Records represent a number of amazing local LA bands including: Hecuba, Aquaserge, Bat For Lashes, Ariel Pink, Rio En Medio, Rainbow Arabia, Winter Flowers and The Chapin Sisters, just to name a few. Stand out performances from this weekend came from Rainbow Arabia and Hecuba. Rainbow Arabia sounds exactly like their name. The married duo performed after the sun set with a lit up neon stage and life size paper tiger. I became a fan of Hecuba after lurking around their myspace but now that I saw them live I love them even more. Everyone that performed at the festival were all very unique and amazing, but these two bands got everyone dancing and were my favorite.
